"Act according to the seasons and the nature of the land, and you will enjoy great success through little effort" is an excerpt from Qimin Yaoshu (Essential Techniques for the Welfare of the People) by Jia Sixie of the Northern Wei Dynasty.

The philosophical wisdom of Jia Sixie does not only apply to agricultural work. The rules also hold true in all aspects of the relationship between humans and nature.

In May 2018, in his speech at the National Conference on Ecological Environment Protection, President Xi Jinping mentioned a typical example of harmonious coexistence between man and nature — the Dujiangyan Irrigation System.

Located on the Minjiang River, west of Chengdu Plain, Dujiangyan was built during the Warring States Period more than 2,000 years ago. It is a large-scale ecological water conservancy project constructed in accordance with the flooding patterns of the Minjiang River and the topographic characteristics of the perched river in the Chengdu Plain.

Ecological prosperity leads to a prosperous civilization, and vice versa. The harmonious coexistence between man and nature is one of the core concepts of traditional Chinese wisdom. This is where the inspiration for the quote "act according to the seasons and the nature of the land" comes from.
